The Issue

Living costs are already high enough, and our community in Reynoldsburg, OH residents of Wilcox Eastwood Apartments agrees that we are being taken advantage of with our electricity bills. Our bills, often inflated by third-party vendors using submetering practices, resulting fraudulent "shared area" charges, improper submetering, or consistent overbilling. This causes outrageously 4 to 8 times higher bills than they would be anywhere else. This unjust practice places an enormous financial burden on us, making it even more challenging to meet our everyday needs.

Many residents are shocked and frustrated by the inexplicable charges on their monthly electricity statements, wondering why they are paying such exorbitant rates compared to direct utility service providers. Submetering, while initially presented as a modern solution, has instead become a mechanism for exploitation.

It's crucial for our local authorities and utility companies to recognize this critical issue and work towards regulatory reforms that ensure fair billing practices. We urge regulators to place restrictions on submetering, demand transparency in billing processes, and enact legislation that favors consumer rights over corporate profits.

Furthermore, we need a proactive move towards evaluating alternate systems that can facilitate direct billing from utility companies, bypassing the middlemen who currently inflate our bills. Implementing caps on the maximum charges permissible under submetering and increasing accountability for third-party vendors would greatly alleviate these financial pressures on affected communities.

We're not asking for special treatment; we're demanding justice and fairness. A re-evaluation of charges, a meter audit, or a change in how common area electricity is billed.  It's time to take a stand against these unchecked practices that disproportionately impact ordinary citizens. Let’s unite our voices and call for a change that will allow our community to breathe easier and live without the constant fear of exorbitant utility costs.

Sign this petition to support our fight for fair and transparent electricity billing, and let's hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
