It's election time, and many of the same old councillors are trotting out the same old lies and promises that gets broken every election. It is time to hold them to account. Please urgently share the image on this update on social media. It highlights the inequity in the council's rating plan - where residential rates are hiked and commercial rates are getting massive cuts. Hardly fair. It's time for accountability.
Wonder why your residential rates are so high? They went up by an average of 4.5%, while commercial rates dropped by 5%!
This happened despite a rate cap designed to ease household pressure at 2.75%, and an official inflation rate (CPI) of 3.5%.
This is against a backdrop where commercial property values have increased, while residential property values have declined.
It’s part of a larger council-approved plan: residential rates are set to rise by 21% over several years, while commercial rates will be cut by 18%.
See for yourself on page 29 of the approved 21-25 Council rating plan (update) —residents pay more, while businesses get a break. Fair?
Councillors often promise to freeze or cut rates at election time, but do the opposite. Let’s hold them accountable this time!
Please share the image or the petition and let everyone know to make their vote count and not to fall for the same old lies!
