Demand Facebook to Thwart Online Bullying and Harassment Aimed at Dog Rescues
The Issue
As rescuers ardently involved in the collective effort of saving distressed dogs, we have unfortunately been systematically targeted by a handful of vindictive individuals who harbor personal grudges against certain rescuers and rescue groups. The repercussions are real and heart-wrenching; the slanderous hate campaigns diminish our ability to operate, tarnish our reputations, and put the lives of the dogs we strive to protect in grave danger.
These malicious attacks have resulted in dire consequences, with some dogs being put to sleep unjustly due to the dissemination of false information to council pounds, other rescues groups, and unsuspecting owners. Each manipulated narrative represents a disrupted rescue mission and the tragic loss of an innocent life.
We urge Facebook, the world's largest social media platform, to implement stronger measures to combat online bullying, trolling, stalking, and harassment. This includes taking down hate pages, groups, posts, and restricting the activities of those involved on their platform. We firmly believe that the internet should be a safe space for meaningful engagements, and malign individuals should not be able to weaponize it to fuel personal vendettas that harm helpless animals and their selfless saviors.
Facebook, it's time to act and display your commitment to protecting all users, including those involved in animal rescues, from targeted online abuse. Please, for the welfare of these innocent lives we tirelessly strive to protect, take urgent action.
Sign this petition and join us in calling on Facebook to put an end to this dangerous abuse.
