Demand Equality for the LGBTIQ+ Community in Honduras
The Issue

The right to life, dignity, security, and access to justice are fundamental rights that the state must guarantee without exception.
Amid growing concerns about violence against LGBTIQ+ individuals in Honduras, including at least 20 reported hate crimes this year, the Honduran Committee on Sexual Diversity issued a proclamation on May 19, 2026 expressing alarm over the lack of progress in investigations, which continues to perpetuate impunity.
Read their statement below.
(1) guarantee prompt, diligent, impartial, and human rights-based investigations into abuses against members of the LGBTIQ+ community and prosecute those responsible, ending the impunity that has historically plagued these crimes.
(2) implement real and effective protection measures for LGBTIQ+ people, especially for trans people who face higher levels of discrimination and social exclusion.
(3) instruct the institutions responsible for security and justice to act with due diligence, sensitivity and respect, and to reduce practices of victimization, discrimination and negligence in the handling of criminal investigations.
(4) adopt and fully comply with international human rights standards, whose resolutions include concrete measures of reparation, guarantees of non-repetition, and obligations for the protection of the rights of LGBTIQ+ people.
(5) open spaces for dialogue with the LGBTIQ+ population toward building a more just, inclusive, and respectful society that upholds human dignity.
