Demand Equal Rights and Protection for LGBTQIA and Women
Demand Equal Rights and Protection for LGBTQIA and Women
The Issue
My name is a pseudonym because I fear retaliation, but as a transgender youth assigned female at birth (AFAB), I see a future clouded with uncertainty. Our rights are hanging in the balance, slowly getting eroded by legislation that does not consider our lives.
We live in the 21st century, yet our legal and societal acceptance remains precariously stuck in the past. This is a call to further the reality of "liberty and justice for all", a reality that rightfully includes the LGBTQIA and women’s rights. We urge our government not to overturn the progress we've painfully achieved over the years.
The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) reported in 2021 that 44 anti-transgender bills were passed in America, the highest number so far. This sets a dangerous precedent for the rights of the LGBTQIA community and women. It fuels a hostile environment that undermines our safety, mental health, and access to necessary medical care.
Simultaneously, the Center for Reproductive Rights states there has been an escalation in restricting access to women’s reproductive health services across various states since 2011. These actions signal an impending crisis for reproductive freedom and counter the notion of equality in the land of the free.
Now, more than ever, we need to raise our voice against these regressive trends. We can't afford to backslide and lose what we have painfully gained. It’s time for the government to dismiss discriminations, cultural stereotypes, and prejudices, and instead to heed our voices.
Lend your voice to this call. Sign this petition, let us proudly stand together in solidarity for our rights, ensuring diversity and equality become more than just words. Together, we can make a difference.
