Demand Equal Opportunities for Felons in Housing and Employment fields

The Issue

As someone who has personally experienced the effects of having a felony record, I wish to highlight an important issue that often goes unnoticed. My motivation is drawn from my own experiences and the contrariety I’ve observed: our former president, Mr. Donald Trump, is a felon, yet he has access to housing and high-paying jobs. Meanwhile, many others, like me, are stigmatized and denied these basic rights because of our convict status. This is a deep-rooted issue, affecting approximately 70 million Americans who have been convicted of a crime and are currently dealing with the consequences of a broken system. Although mistakes were made in the past, these 70 million people are continually punished and denied basic aspects of life - housing and job opportunities. We need to fix this. We need to advocate for more inclusive policies in employment and housing, which do not discriminate based on past felony convictions. Our community should not have to bear the burden of a past mistake forever. It's time we acknowledge that those with a felon background are also capable of contributing positively our society and economy. Support this movement to help felons move past their record and rebuild their lives with dignity. Sign the petition and demand justice for felons.
