Demand equal funding for Multifest in Charleston, WV

Demand equal funding for Multifest in Charleston, WV
The Issue
For 36 years, Multifest has been a beacon of equality and inclusion in Charleston, West Virginia, bringing together a tapestry of cultures through music, art, food, and community engagement. As someone deeply committed to the principles of equality and inclusion, we have witnessed firsthand the incredible impact this festival has on our community. Multifest isn't just about celebration; it's about building bridges among diverse communities, fostering understanding, and promoting the rich cultural heritage of all its participants.
Over the course of four days, Multifest attracts approximately 55,000 participants, generating a staggering economic impact of $7.4 million in 2025. However, despite its significant contributions to the community and economy, Multifest receives only $35,000 in funding from the Kanawha County Commission. In stark contrast, the Sternwheel Regatta, another event in our region, is given $150,000.
This significant disparity in funding is not only unjust but undermines the very essence of what Multifest represents. If we genuinely believe in fostering equality and inclusion within our community, Multifest deserves equal financial support. Half a million-dollar budgets are what Multifest diligently works to achieve, and every dollar counts in ensuring its continued success and growth.
To all those who believe in equal opportunities, cultural celebration, and community enhancement, we urge you to stand with us. Help us persuade the Kanawha County Commission to allocate equal funding to Multifest, recognizing its invaluable contributions and the principles it embodies.
Please sign this petition to demand fairness, support multicultural expression, and ensure that Multifest continues to thrive for generations to come. HELP KEEP MULTIFEST ALIVE!!!
