I am deeply troubled by a personal experience I encountered on the social media site Bigo Live. My own pictures, taken from my Facebook account without my consent, where broadcasters on the platform by another host. Even worse, my personal address was posted as well. This blatant disregard for privacy and safety is not only a violation of the app’s policies, but it brings to light a much bigger problem on the platform - the lack of robust privacy policies and accountability measures.

Bigo Live, unfortunately, lacks comprehensive privacy rules and even permits users with enough money to get unbanned, despite committing severe privacy violations like posting personal addresses, non-consensual photos, and private numbers. These vices have cost innocent people their safety, relationships, and jobs.

With over 200 million users worldwide, Bigo Live is a significant player in the social media sphere. It is unacceptable for an app of its magnitude to stand on the wrong side of privacy and safety. We cannot and should not turn a blind eye to the dangerous precedent this sets in the world of online privacy.

This petition is a call to take robust action against Bigo Live's privacy shortcomings. We demand that the platform substantially improve its privacy policies and implement enforceable measures that protect users like myself from harm. We also require Bigo Live to close the loophole that allows banned users to pay their way back, particularly if their ban is due to a violation of privacy rights.
