As United States citizens who deeply care for our country, we feel forced to raise our voices against the danger we perceive. Donald J. Trump, in our eyes, has shown actions that can be interpreted as treasonous and detrimental to the sanctity and security of our nation. We call upon legal avenues to invoke Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, a facet of our Constitution, which disqualifies from holding public office any individual who has participated in insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or given aid or comfort to its enemies. This action is not suggested lightly but sees its foundation in a growing body of evidence that, in our belief, sufficiently points towards disqualification. We realize the magnitude of our demand – it speaks to the fundamentals of our democracy. However, we deem it necessary in order to protect the values our great nation was built upon: freedom, justice, and the pursuit of truth.
