The Issue

Every day, as I attend my classes and dream about my future, I am acutely aware of the stark contrast that exists for girls in Afghanistan, who are denied this very opportunity. Since 2021, the Taliban's oppressive regime has banned girls from attending secondary school and university, rendering it illegal to dream of a future filled with possibilities. Women in Afghanistan are not only barred from education but are also restricted from working, traveling without a male guardian, and even speaking freely in public.

This reality is not just a distant problem; it is personal to me because I am a girl and a woman too. I cannot stand idly by while the Taliban systematically erode the rights and futures of Afghan women and girls. The world must not allow the destruction of young girls' futures or the oppression of women to go unchecked and unchallenged.

According to Amnesty International, since the Taliban takeover, millions of Afghan girls have been denied access to education, violating their basic human rights as outlined in international law. The United Nations reports that over three million girls are out of school in Afghanistan, eradicating years of progress in gender equality and education.

Education is not only a fundamental human right but also a crucial driver for socio-economic development and gender equality. We must call upon governments, international organizations, and global civil society to take decisive and immediate action to pressure the Taliban regime to lift the bans on girls’ education and women's employment. Economic sanctions, diplomatic pressure, and international advocacy must be employed to hold the Taliban accountable for their actions.

We urge world leaders to prioritize the education and freedom of Afghan women in international discourse and negotiations. Providing scholarships and educational opportunities in foreign countries, utilizing media campaigns to raise awareness, and supporting grassroots organizations on the ground are actionable steps that can make a significant impact.

Join us in standing against this grave injustice. Together, we can fight for the rights and futures of Afghan women. Please sign this petition to demand education and freedom for Afghan women and girls. Your support can help bring about the change needed to end this oppression.
