Demand Diversity in NYPD Executive Leadership

The Issue

We, the undersigned, call on the leadership of the NYPD to immediately address the lack of diversity within its executive ranks.

Since January 2025, the NYPD has lost a significant number of Black executives an alarming trend in a department that already struggles with issues of transparency, accountability, and equity. This pattern of attrition is unacceptable. The people of New York City demand an NYPD whose executive leadership looks like the people it serves. That means not only recruiting but retaining and promoting Black and Brown leaders. Without them at the table, the policies, priorities, and culture of the department will never fully align with the values of justice and inclusion.

We are demanding the following:

  1. A concrete plan and timeline to increase Black representation at the executive level of the NYPD.
  2. Annual reporting requirements on racial and gender equity within the NYPD’s executive ranks.

The people of New York deserve an NYPD leadership that reflects  Our city’s full diversity not just in uniform, but in power representation is not optional. It is essential to building the trust that true public safety depends on. The NYPD must reflect the people it serves.
