Demand Constable Timothy Kregiel resign from ICE

Demand Constable Timothy Kregiel resign from ICE
The Issue
In Lower Burrell's 4th Ward, our community stands at a crossroads where the integrity of our local governance is at stake. We are faced with a situation that not only raises concerns about conflicts of interest but also threatens to mesh state and federal power in a way that could echo the darker chapters of history. As someone deeply rooted in this town, I refuse to see my community as a mere footnote in the narrative of rising governmental overreach and the potential slide into undemocratic practices.
Constable Timothy Kregiel, carrying Badge #654, is currently serving two roles that present a glaring conflict of interest. On one hand, he holds a state-elected position as the Constable of Lower Burrell's 4th Ward. On the other, he acts as a federal agent under the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). These dual responsibilities are not just inappropriate; they are unsustainable and dangerous for our civic democracy.
The role of a Constable is state-elected, meant to serve and uphold the laws within the state. Conversely, an ICE agent operates under the federal government's jurisdiction, focusing on immigration and customs laws, which can often run counter to local community needs and ethos. Allowing one individual to toggle between these roles not only blurs the lines of accountability but also dilutes the autonomy of our state's judicial processes.
Moreover, the merging of local and federal responsibilities could set a precedent that normalizes the centralization of power in fewer hands, increasing the risk of authoritarian governance. This is why it is crucial that Mr. Kregiel makes a decision to resign from one of his roles to maintain the separation of powers essential to our democratic system.
In a time when the fabric of our democracy feels increasingly stretched, it's vital that we hold our officials accountable and demand transparency and ethical standards in all levels of government. Timothy Kregiel should either cease his duties as an ICE agent or relinquish his position as Constable of Lower Burrell’s 4th Ward.
Join me in this fight to preserve the integrity of our local governance and prevent any future attempts to conflate local duties with federal agendas. Sign this petition to urge Timothy Kregiel to resign from one of his conflicting roles immediately to safeguard democracy in our community.
