Demand Congress pass the Protect Infant Formula from Contamination Act

Demand Congress pass the Protect Infant Formula from Contamination Act
The Issue
I am a mother to a five-month-old baby who relies on infant formula as her sole source of nutrition. It is deeply distressing to me that I have to question the safety of the formula I feed my child every day.
Recently, a report by Consumer Reports found that over half of the infant formulas tested contained heavy metals such as lead and arsenic. Shockingly, there are currently no federal laws in place that require manufacturers to test for or limit these harmful contaminants. This is a risk to the health and development of infants across the country.
The bipartisan Protect Infant Formula from Contamination Act helps to address some of the significant gaps in our food safety system, but it doesn't go far enough. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) needs to establish firm limits for heavy metals in infant formula and require mandatory testing by manufacturers to ensure compliance with these safety standards. By implementing these enforceable limits and regular testing, we can significantly reduce the risk of contamination and ensure that the formula feeding our nation's babies is free of harmful substances.
Congress and the FDA has a responsibility to protect the health and well-being of our youngest and most vulnerable citizens. Passing this critical piece of legislation is a step in the right direction towards strengthening safety standards and providing parents with peace of mind. We cannot afford to delay action when the safety of our children is a stake.
Join me in demanding that Congress pass the Protect Infant Formula from Contamination Act. Urge the FDA to take immediate action to establish meaningful and enforceable standards. Together, we can ensure a safer and healthier future for all of our children. Please sign this petition and help make a difference.
