Demand Comprehensive Wildfire Prevention and Mitigation Policies Now

The Issue

FireKiller Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to wildfire prevention and response, submits this petition to demand legislative and executive action to address the escalating wildfire crisis in the United States. The catastrophic wildfires in Hawaii, which devastated communities and claimed lives, and the ongoing wildfire disasters in California highlight the urgent need for comprehensive and immediate government action. These recurring tragedies underscore the necessity for systemic reforms in wildfire management, resource allocation, and climate resilience.

PETITION BODY:

Whereas the wildfires in Hawaii and California have resulted in unprecedented destruction, including loss of lives, homes, and cultural heritage, demonstrating the growing frequency and intensity of wildfire disasters across the nation;

Whereas current wildfire prevention and mitigation policies remain inadequate to protect communities, ecosystems, and infrastructure from these escalating threats;

Whereas FireKiller Inc., as a nonprofit entity, represents the interests of affected communities and ecosystems, and is committed to advocating for science-based, sustainable solutions;

Therefore, we, the undersigned, on behalf of FireKiller Inc., petition federal, state, and local governments to enact the following measures:

1. Immediate Emergency Funding for Wildfire Response and Recovery: Allocate resources to support recovery efforts in Hawaii and California, including aid for displaced families, rebuilding efforts, and environmental restoration.

2. Wildfire Prevention and Mitigation Act: Enact comprehensive legislation mandating regular inspections of at-risk areas, implementation of controlled burns, removal of hazardous vegetation, and increased funding for early detection and suppression systems.

3. Climate-Resilient Infrastructure Requirements: Update building codes to include mandatory use of fire-resistant materials and designs in high-risk zones and provide subsidies to retrofit existing structures to meet these standards.

4. Community Wildfire Defense Grants: Establish a dedicated fund to support community-led wildfire defense programs, including education, training, and infrastructure improvement initiatives.

5. Accountability and Transparency in Forest Management: Mandate annual audits and reports from state and federal agencies on forest management practices, ensuring compliance with wildfire mitigation goals.

6. National Wildfire Research Initiative: Allocate resources to study the relationship between climate change and wildfire patterns, develop innovative firefighting technologies, and evaluate the long-term impact of wildfires on ecosystems and communities.

7. Equitable Relief for Affected Communities: Ensure timely disaster relief and equitable distribution of resources to vulnerable populations, including low-income families and marginalized communities.

CALL FOR REFORM:

The frequency and severity of wildfires demand systemic reform at every level of government. We call for the establishment of a National Wildfire Resilience Task Force to coordinate efforts across federal, state, and local agencies, ensuring consistency, accountability, and swift implementation of wildfire prevention strategies. Additionally, we urge the reform of outdated policies and the creation of new legal frameworks that prioritize wildfire prevention, mitigation, and climate adaptation as critical components of national safety and resilience.

MANIFESTO FOR IMMEDIATE GOVERNMENT ACTION: The wildfire tragedies in Hawaii and California must serve as a wake-up call. These disasters are preventable with proper foresight, planning, and resource allocation. We demand immediate government attention to prioritize wildfire prevention and mitigation as a national security issue. The time to act is now—before more lives, homes, and natural treasures are lost.

By signing this petition, we urge policymakers to adopt the outlined measures, reform existing wildfire management systems, and take decisive action to prevent future wildfire disasters. This is not just a call for change; it is a demand for justice, equity, and sustainability for current and future generations.
