Demand College Board to Rescore the October 5th SAT Test and Increase Transparency

The Issue

I speak as a student who took the test on October 5th and experienced a profound disappointment. Despite extensive practice and self-confidence during the examination, my results fell short of expectations. Frustratingly, the 'range' provided left an untold story of which questions were answered incorrectly. This situation is not unique to me; countless students nationwide share this sentiment, their hard work represented by an arbitrarily scaled score rather than a true reflection of their achievement.

The imperfections of the existing SAT marking system disproportionately impact students who invest vast amounts of time, effort, and in many instances, significant monetary resources to participate in the test. Furthermore, the geographical barriers faced by students traveling great distances further the inequity. It is a system that calls into question the core principles of fairness and transparency.

We urge the College Board to immediately rescore the October 5th SAT test, ensuring that each student receives a fair reflection of their performance. Furthermore, we demand enhanced transparency around scoring processes, particularly providing a clear breakdown of individual test performances. These steps are fundamentally necessary to maintain trust in the College Board and to ensure our hard work is recognized and accurately graded.
