We are a community dedicated to the safety and welfare of our children. Each day, our youngsters gather across the street from a particular local hotel to catch the school bus. The issue lies in the individuals this hotel houses – violent sex predators and child sex offenders. We cannot stand idle while the safety of our children is at risk due to potential violence, trauma, or drug activity.

According to the Department of Justice, sex offenders have a 5.3% recidivism rate for sex crimes and a higher rate for other crimes. That statistic alone is harrowing, knowing that the hotel near where our kids catch their bus is home to such individuals.

We urge our city council and local law enforcement to hear our pleas and take immediate action to close down the hotel for the sake of our children. This is not just about us; it's about every community in our nation. No child in any neighborhood should have to live in fear.
