Demand Clear Labelling of Canadian Products in Stores and Markets

The Issue

Canada Is Not for Sale! We Demand Clear Product Labeling!

In the face of increasing economic threats and unfair trade policies from the United States, Canadians are standing together, stronger than ever, determined to support our own economy and businesses. We, the undersigned, demand that the Canadian government take immediate action to instruct all service providers, grocery stores, and markets to clearly identify which products are Made in Canada or a Product of Canada—and just as importantly, to identify products that are imported from the United States.

Why This Matters:

  • Empower Canadian Consumers: Canadians want to support local businesses and avoid products from countries imposing unfair trade barriers. However, determining a product’s origin is often confusing and difficult due to unclear or misleading labeling.
  • Differentiate Between 'Made in Canada' and 'Product of Canada': These terms are not interchangeable, and their misuse may mislead consumers into purchasing products they intend to boycott. This lack of clarity could inadvertently support policies and administrations that Canadians do not align with.
  • Address Complex Import Chains: Some products may be manufactured in countries like Turkey but imported by a U.S. company before reaching Canada. Without clear labeling, consumers cannot know whether such products are subject to U.S. tariffs or contribute financially to the U.S. economy.
  • Strengthen Our Economy: By making it easier to identify and purchase Canadian-made products, we help our economy thrive, protect jobs, and reduce dependency on foreign goods.
  • Accountability & Transparency: Retailers and service providers must be held legally responsible for accurately labeling products. False or misleading product origins should carry penalties.

What We Demand:

  • Mandatory & Prominent Labeling: All consumer products must clearly display whether they are Made in Canada, a Product of Canada, or imported, with a specific mention if they come from the United States or if they have been imported through U.S. distributors.
  • Liability for Misleading Labels: Retailers should be legally responsible for ensuring product origin information is accurate. Consumers must not be misled.
  • Government Oversight & Enforcement: Regulatory bodies must enforce compliance, ensuring that consumers have the transparency they need to make informed choices.

Our Message to the Government: Canadians deserve the right to make informed purchasing decisions, free from hidden information and deceptive marketing. We stand united in boycotting U.S. products in response to economic threats, and we need the tools to do so effectively. The government must act now to protect Canadian consumers and businesses!
