I am a resident of Oxford, AL and it deeply saddens me to see the number of animals suffering on our streets. These innocent creatures are left to fend for themselves without any support or shelter. It is time we take responsibility for their welfare.

In the United States alone, approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year (ASPCA). Unfortunately, our city does not have a facility where these helpless animals can be taken care of.

We need our city leaders to recognize this pressing issue and establish an animal shelter here in Oxford. An animal shelter will not only provide refuge for stray and abandoned animals but also promote responsible pet ownership through education and outreach programs.
