Demand Chief Derrick Cannon host press conference on Ja'Niyah McMichael abduction
The Issue
What started with the live streams of Dalia Guerrero tirelessly searching for the missing teen, Ja'Niyah McMichael,[her granddaughter] has become a community's plea for justice. As concerned citizens, we find it unbearable watching Dalia put herself in danger by scouring abandoned homes, schools and hazardous locations throughout Gary, Indiana, since Ja'Niyah's reported disappearance on August 12,2024.
We believe it's inexcusable for the city's authorities, including the Chief of Police and the Mayor of Gary, Indiana, to remain silent about this shocking incident. A 14-year-old girl vanished from their city under suspicious circumstances in June, 2024. Yet, there has been only vague public discourse or updates about the actions taken by the Chief of Police, search efforts initiated, or even basic details of the case.
Ja'Niyah's mother, Jasmine Ann McMichael, provided a full description of the clothes her daughter wore when she vanished. On on the other hand, she told multiple media outlets she didn't see her daughter leave their home between 12 a.m. and 7a.m. August.12 ,2024.
Antonio Rogers, Ja'Niyah's father told Missing Lost And Trafficked he hasn't been contacted by investigators with updates regarding his daughter disappearance or possible whereabouts.
This petition is an urgent request to the Gary Police for a public press conference to brief us about the progress of the ongoing investigation, search, rescue or recovery efforts to locate Ja'Niyah. Our hearts ache for Ja'Niyah's family and watching her loved ones search in desperation, without assistance from those who have a sworn duty to protect, is unacceptable.
