The Issue

I want to share an incident that recently took place in Sierra Grande School District, where my child was directly affected by the school’s unacceptable disciplinary methods. As a parent, I was horrified to learn that the elementary school principal, allegedly used a paddle to intimidate and frighten a 5-year-old girl. This incident left not only my child but also other students traumatized.
This isn't the first time he has faced complaints. Despite multiple reports against his behavior, it seems no significant action has been taken to address the issue. Over the years, many students, including my own, have endured a learning environment filled with fear and intimidation due to such disciplinary practices.
The use of physical intimidation in schools is not just outdated but also harmful. It goes against the principles of creating a safe and positive learning environment for children. Studies show that such disciplinary methods can lead to anxiety, lower self-esteem, and can negatively impact a child’s ability to learn and thrive academically.
We demand that the Sierra Grande School District take immediate action to reassess their disciplinary policies and staff put an end to the use of physical intimidation tactics. He should be held accountable for his repeated misconduct and the district needs to implement training for all staff on positive behavior support.
Our children deserve to feel safe at school and should have the opportunity to learn in an environment free from fear and intimidation. It's time for the Sierra Grande School District to prioritize the mental and emotional well-being of our students.
Please sign this petition to urge the Sierra Grande School District to enforce disciplinary methods that are supportive rather than fear-inducing, and to ensure that such incidences are never repeated.
