Demand Central Christian Church disclose abandoned cats' location
The Issue
In February and March of 2026, an alarming incident unfolded involving the community cats of downtown San Antonio. Fox News reported that the church childcare coordinator and the leadership team at Central Christian Church orchestrated the trapping and abandonment of unfixed community cats. These cats were left in an undisclosed location, their fate unknown.
It is heart-wrenching to think about the plight of these defenseless animals, abandoned without care. Cats are an integral part of our neighborhoods, and without proper management, their populations can spiral out of control, leading to more suffering and ecological imbalance. Moreover, the Church engaged in illegal activity breaking both City and State laws by dumping these cats.
Thankfully, two dedicated nonprofit rescue organizations stepped up to take responsibility for these cats, ensuring they were fixed and returned, where they are now fed by the adjacent hospital. A blind feral nursing cat, was trapped by the church employee and thankfully released by a Good Samaritan who saw what was happening, and is now fixed and living safely at Bear Den Sanctuary. Both litters of her kittens were rescued, fixed, vaccinated and adopted out by partner rescue organizations. While this was a commendable effort, the reality is that the abandoned cats remain out there, their welfare uncertain.
It is crucial for the church to disclose the location where these unfixed cats were abandoned. This information is vital for local Rescue Organizations to implement a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program, which is a humane and effective way to manage and stabilize feral cat populations.
Trap-Neuter-Return not only helps to reduce the homeless cat population but also improves their quality of life and relieves the community from the challenges of dealing with overcrowded animal shelters.
We urge Central Christian Church to take responsibility and contribute to a solution by providing this critical information. With transparency and cooperation, we can ensure these cats are given the care they deserve and prevent further such incidents in the future.
Please sign this petition to demand justice and humane treatment for our community cats. Together, we can make a difference and uphold the values of kindness and responsibility in our community. Let's ask Central Community Church to practice what they preach and demonstrate kindness to all living beings.
