The Issue

British Airways already operates 30-minute flights from Heathrow to Manchester, which are generously supplemented by road and rail links. This raises an important question: Why can't Cardiff have the same opportunities for seamless travel connections?

A flight from Heathrow to Cardiff is not as dumb or stupid as it may seem and Wales, a vibrant nation with its own cultural and economic significance, remains significantly underdeveloped in terms of direct air connections and a direct motorway between the south without having to travel to England!

People wanting to make international connections from Cardiff, especially to far-flung destinations like Tokyo, Los Angeles or Australia, face multiple hurdles like unreliable train schedules, road closures, and long commutes into London for their flights. Establishing a direct flight from Heathrow to Cardiff would simplify this journey, saving time, reducing stress, and offering a seamless international travel experience.

Moreover, British Airways already flies direct to Scotland and Northern Ireland. Therefore, adding Wales to their UK domestic routes network aligns with their current strategy of connecting major UK cities. Cardiff is not just a capital city; it is a gateway to the experiential and economic opportunities that Wales offers. By including Cardiff Airport, British Airways could not only bolster Cardiff’s connectivity to the world but also boost tourism, business travel, and even the local economy.

Currently, regional connections are primarily managed through road and rail, susceptible to variables such as traffic and weather conditions. A committed air route could relieve this pressure while providing another mode that is less vulnerable to these disruptions.

The demand is palpable and the benefits are clear. It's time for British Airways to reflect on their national commitments and include Wales in their equation of direct domestic flights.  These flights would be specially designed for those making international connections, regular travellers between London and Cardiff should use either road or rail.

These provisional London-Cardiff flights would take 30 minutes from takeoff to touchdown, operate at cruising speeds of 300-350mph and cruise at around 13,000 feet - just enough time for a cup of coffee or tea before touchdown.

Sign this campaign to demand British Airways to consider this vital addition to their flight itinerary and to make seamless travel between Cardiff and the world a reality!
