Demand Bluesky Social to Reform Its List Feature to Curb Targeted Harassment

The Issue

I have been personally affected by Bluesky Social's inadequate control over its list feature; an experience that leaves me disheartened and violated. As a content creator , I have been a victim of targeted harassment, facing slanderous hate campaigns, all orchestrated through the misuse of this feature. Hate-fueled individuals and groups are exploiting this platform to promote aggression and retort innocent people like me into their disrespectful lists. This misuse is considerably against the network's policy and its commitment to fostering a safe environment for users.

Cyberbullying is a growing concern for digital communities. Statistics show that approximately 59% of U.S. teens have been bullied or harassed online according to a 2018 Pew Research Center survey. This fact amplifies the urgency for platforms like Bluesky Social to take decisive action against such actions. (While I myself am not a teen this remains true) We implore Bluesky Social to implement strict regulations and enforcement measures related to how lists are created and used, particularly those that are not "starter packs".  Only positive lists should be allowed to gain subscribers/followers. Blocklists should only be allowed as a means for an individual to currate their own feed and should not be shareable.

We are not suggesting the stifling of free speech, but rather pushing for accountability to protect users from targeted bullying and defamation. It is high time Bluesky Social should revamp its policies and technical safeguards to discourage and preclude such abuses of its platform.

Therefore, we urge you to sign this petition and join us in our fight. Changing list policies and implementing protective measures is a crucial step in curbing online harassment and fostering constructive, respectful discourse on Bluesky Social.
