Demand Blair County Law Enforcement to Enforce Protection From Abuse Orders

Demand Blair County Law Enforcement to Enforce Protection From Abuse Orders
The Issue
I am a resident of Blair County, PA, and a mother who fears for her safety and the safety of her child. We are protected under a Protection From Abuse (PFA) order that has been repeatedly violated by the defendant in our case. Despite these violations, local law enforcement and officials have failed to hold the defendant accountable.
The PFA is designed to protect victims of domestic violence, yet its effectiveness relies on its enforcement. According to statistics from the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence (PCADV), there were over 39,000 PFA orders issued in Pennsylvania in 2019 alone. However, without proper enforcement by local authorities, these orders can fail to provide the protection they promise.
According to domesticabuseshelter.org, about 4,000 women die each year due to domestic violence. Of the total domestic violence homicides, about 75% of the victims were killed as they attempted to leave the relationship or after the relationship had ended.
I imagine that in Blair County alone, numerous cases similar to ours are reported each year where PFAs are violated with little or no repercussions for offenders. We can't be alone. This lack of action not only undermines the legal system but also puts victims at higher risk.
We urge you - our community members - to join us in calling upon our local law enforcement agencies and officials in Blair County to uphold their duty by enforcing all violations against PFAs seriously. Let's ensure that every citizen under a PFA order receives full protection as mandated by law.
Please sign this petition today and help us demand justice for all victims of domestic abuse who rely on PFAs for their safety.
