Abuse of a child should never be condoned, tolerated or ignored, which is why the President of Bishop Miege, Phil Baniewicz, should be removed from his position immediately.

As outlined in the recent KC Star article by Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Melinda Henneberger, we are calling for the immediate dismissal of Phil Baniewicz by Miege due to his failure to protect children and inappropriate behavior with students.

Baniewicz has been accused of sexual misconduct towards minors in the past and is also alleged to have failed to report or stop such actions from his mentors - Fushek and Lehman - who were defrocked, charged, and found guilty of crimes against minors in Arizona. It is deeply concerning that Bishop Miege would choose to employ someone with such serious allegations surrounding them.

The cost of abuse is immeasurable; it leaves scars that last a lifetime. We cannot allow our children's safety to be compromised by those entrusted with their care. It's time for our community to demand better protection for our children.

We call on Bishop Miege High School administration and the diocese overseeing it to dismiss Phil Baniewicz immediately due his potential involvement in sexual misconduct towards minors. We also urge them not only take immediate action, but also implement stricter hiring policies that prioritize student safety above all else.
