Our community is in peril. We, concerned citizens, parents, and neighbors, are forced to bear the brunt of recurring criminal activity, seemingly without the necessary intervention or assistance from our local law enforcement. Night after night, the peace is shattered by gunshots, verbal abuse, and blatant parallels of disrespect for the law. Most tragically, our children are involuntary witnesses to these unsettling events, including my own 11-year-old child who has been exposed to language and actions far beyond their years. In one particularly distressing incident, my daughter was assaulted by a 21-year-old neighbor in a public store. Despite reporting this to the police with hopes of justice, our concerns were dismissed.

Such issues are not isolated to our neighborhood. According to a survey by the Department of Justice, between 2006 to 2010 52% of crimes were unreported and only 46% of reported crimes were cleared by law enforcement. This lack of action is a complain of many communities. We must not become another statistic.

Our tax dollars fund local law enforcement agencies, and as such, we deserve adequate protection and efficient response to our concerns. We demand stricter enforcement of laws in our community, better responses to reported incidents, and thorough investigations into the cases that are impacting our lives daily.

For the safety of our children, our families, and our neighbors, it is imperative that law enforcement agencies act with more vigor and efficiency in addressing crimes in our local community.
