Tiverton isn't the only community dealing with state zoning mandates. Here is an article in The Valley Breeze from March 15 about what Burrilville is currently dealing with.
"Councilor Stephen Rawson said the state got “their nose in local zoning” and is “big brother now.” He explained that new state zoning laws have made local setbacks useless.
“I mean, by the formula, you can put a house basically right on your property line,” Rawson said.
[Planning Director Raymond] Goff said the state made zoning changes without considering the effects it would have on rural communities with large lot zoning. When applied to the Staghead Parkway lots, where there are many small lots, the state zoning formula would allow houses to be right on the property line."
