This petition seeks to demand that Apple Inc. make their MacOS and IOS operating systems open source, concurrently lowering the costs of products such as MacBooks.

For years, Apple Inc. has kept its MacOS and IOS platforms exclusive. This exclusivity often curbs innovation, posing hindrances to developers worldwide who wish to contribute to the software's growth. According to a survey by Stack Overflow in 2019, around 52.4% of the developers favored open-source platforms due to the freedom and flexibility it offered – all backed by a thriving community that regularly furthers growth and innovation.

The high prices of Apple products - MacBooks, in particular - also create a financial barrier for many. As noted by Statista, Apple's gross margin in 2020 was around 38.25% - a clear indicator of exorbitant pricing structures that maximize profits at the consumer's expense.

The tech sector thrives through accessibility and relentless innovation. By keeping its operating systems proprietary and devices costly, Apple is inhibiting both of these core principles. It's time to insist on Apple to challenge the status quo they've set: we ask that they open-source MacOS and IOS, fostering innovation, and reduce the high costs of their laptops, thus ensuring that high-quality tech is not just a luxury for the few.
