Demand Apple to Allow Downgrades of iOS and iPadOS for Enhanced Performance

The Issue

This petition stems from a deeply personal experience. My grandfather, who lives with a mental disability, uses an iPhone 12 Pro Max. He accidentally updated his device and now finds himself unable to revert back to iOS 14 - a version he was comfortable using. His disbelief led me to question why Apple would restrict such an option.

Apple's current policy prevents users from downgrading their devices' operating systems once they've been updated. This one-size-fits-all approach doesn't consider the diverse needs of its user base, which includes those like my grandfather who may struggle with new updates due to various reasons including disabilities.

Not all iOS versions are suited for everyone's needs and wants; some users find older versions more stable or user-friendly based on their specific requirements or device capabilities. A study by Sensor Tower in 2020 showed that approximately 15% of Apple users did not update their devices immediately after the release of iOS 14, suggesting that many prefer sticking with older versions (Sensor Tower, 2020).

We urge Apple Inc., as a leading technology company known for its commitment towards customer satisfaction and inclusivity, to reconsider this policy. By allowing downgrades on all older versions of IOS and IPadOS, they can improve performance and usability based on individual preferences.

Please sign this petition if you believe in giving choice back into the hands of Apple product users! Let's make our voices heard so people like my grandfather can enjoy using their iPhones without unnecessary hurdles.
