Demand Appalachian Electrical Power to Lower Rates and Prioritize Consumers Over Corporations

The Issue

For us, the residents of Bluefield, WV, the monopolistic conduct of Appalachian Electrical Power has been a burden. Our rates are ticking upwards with each passing year, seemingly without reason. It's become apparent that our meter readings are given little attention, and the charges appear arbitrary and unfair. Living in West Virginia and the surrounding areas, we find ourselves caught in a vice-like grip of a government-enforced monopoly. This is more than just an institutional problem; this is personal.

We are dismayed to see our hard-earned money lining the pockets of corporations and shareholders, while we grapple with escalating rates. A subject of our ire is Appalachian Electrical Power's tendency to prioritize profit making entities over everyday people. It is reported that U.S. electricity rates have increased 14% over the past decade. As Appalachian Electrical Power is part of this industry, it bears a degree of responsibility for this rise (Energy Information Administration).

This petition calls for a thorough review of Appalachian Electrical Power's pricing and corporate giving strategies. We demand transparency in meter-readings, fair and justified billing, and most importantly, an end to the elevation of corporations over people in decision making.

Help us reclaim our right to affordable and fair utility charges. Sign this petition and join the fight against the corporate greed of Appalachian Electrical Power.
