Demand Apology from International Olympic Committee for Offensive Depiction

The Issue

As a devoted Christian, I felt a deep sense of disrespect when I watched the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics held on 26th July 2024. Present was a depiction of The Last Supper, a sacred event before Jesus' death that holds immense spiritual significance for millions of Christians around the world, in a way that was both offensive and dismissive. This representation felt like an attack on our faith and our God, symptomatic of a larger trend where Christian values are undermined by prominent establishments.

The International Olympic Committee prides itself on promoting understanding and unity through sport, respecting social, cultural, and religious diversity as laid out in Olympic Charter (Rule 4). By using a sacred event for entertainment, they ignored those ideals and disrespected not just attendees but a global audience of believers.

Offering an apology for their actions is only the first step. The IOC must implement and enforce better examination of content to prevent such religious insensitivity in the future. This will help to ensure the sacred beliefs and practices of all religions are respected enhancing mutual understanding and respect among diverse communities across the globe.

Please sign this petition to demand the IOC to apologises for their actions and take steps to prevent similar instances in the future.
