Karoline Ferreira de Moura is 13 years old — and missing. She disappeared while in the custody of Massachusetts’ Department of Children and Families after a terrifying ICE operation ripped her family apart in Worcester. Now, no one can say for sure where she is.

Karoline's mother was arrested in May during a controversial immigration raid that also detained Karoline’s relatives — including a baby. Despite criminal charges being dismissed in court, her mother remains locked in an immigration detention center in Texas. With no parent to protect her, Karoline was placed into state care. But now, she’s vanished.

DCF has not explained how a 13-year-old could go missing while in their care. ICE has not addressed the trauma caused by a militarized arrest that left a child without her mother. And while officials quietly debate visa eligibility, a terrified teenager may be trying to cross borders alone.

This isn’t just about one girl. This is about every child failed by the systems that are supposed to protect them. It’s about the chaos left behind when immigration enforcement ignores the human cost. And it’s about demanding answers from the very agencies that should be sounding the alarm — not staying silent.

We’re calling on Massachusetts DCF and federal immigration officials to immediately explain what happened to Karoline, confirm whether a missing child report has been filed, and make public the steps they are taking to locate her safely. We’re also demanding an independent investigation into how a child in state custody could simply disappear.

Karoline deserves to be safe. She deserves to be heard. And she deserves a system that doesn’t treat her as collateral damage.
