Demand Ancestry.com to Remove Paywall for Shared Matches Access

The Issue

As someone who has paid for a DNA kit, I find it increasingly difficult to connect with my family and research my lineage due to the newly implemented paywall on Ancestry.com. This paywall restricts access to shared matches unless a monthly subscription is purchased. This change is not only affecting me, but also countless others who are in search of their roots and familial connections.

The introduction of this paywall is an unnecessary burden on those who have already invested in DNA kits, expecting full access to all features. It's important to note that as per a report by MIT Technology Review, more than 26 million people have taken an at-home ancestry test (1). This indicates the vast number of individuals potentially affected by this policy.

We believe that everyone should have the right to explore their heritage without additional financial constraints. We urge Ancestry.com to reconsider its decision and remove the paywall for accessing shared matches. By doing so, they will be supporting millions in their quest for self-discovery and familial connection.

Please sign this petition if you believe in unrestricted access to your own lineage information on Ancestry.com.
