DEMAND AN URGENT POLICE INVESTIGATION AND LEGAL ACTION AGAINST SHALINI!
The Issue
DEMAND URGENT POLICE ACTION AGAINST REPEATED ANTI-MUSLIM SPEECH AT SPEAKERS’ CORNER, LONDON
To: The Metropolitan Police Service and the relevant UK law-enforcement authorities
We, the undersigned, call for an urgent and impartial police investigation into repeated public statements attributed to Shalini, the Christian preacher reportedly appearing at Speakers’ Corner in Hyde Park, London, concerning Islam, Allah (God), Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and Islamic religious principles.
Videos circulating online appear to show confrontational religious exchanges in which Islamic beliefs and practices are discussed in deeply offensive terms. We are concerned about the frequency and nature of these incidents and their potential impact on Muslim communities, particularly young people who witness these confrontations.
Why are we raising this concern?
According to the concerns raised by members of the public, Shalini has appeared on multiple occasions at Speakers’ Corner, where religious debates take place. We ask the authorities to review the available original recordings and establish the full context of her statements.
Our concerns include remarks allegedly directed towards:
Allah (God): Statements perceived by Muslims as insulting or mocking their Creator.
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ: Remarks concerning the Prophet of Islam that many Muslims regard as deeply offensive and disrespectful.
The Qur’an and Islamic principles: Statements about the sacred text and the fundamental beliefs of Muslims.
Hijab and Islamic dress: Remarks concerning Muslim women’s religious clothing, dignity and freedom to practise their faith.
Halal practices and Islamic values: Public comments about religious practices that are important to Muslim individuals and families.
We recognise that freedom of expression protects the right to debate religion, question beliefs and criticise religious ideas. However, we ask the authorities to assess whether any particular statements, considered in their full context, cross the legal threshold into criminal threats, harassment, incitement or another relevant offence.
The impact on young people and community relations
We are particularly concerned about the possibility that repeated, highly confrontational exchanges about religion may anger young people, deepen divisions and increase tensions between religious communities.
Young Muslims should be able to participate in public life without feeling that their faith or identity is being deliberately targeted. At the same time, disagreements must be addressed peacefully, without threats, violence, intimidation or retaliation.
We do not want these confrontations to escalate into wider community conflict. We want a lawful, peaceful and proportionate response from the relevant authorities.
Our demands to the Metropolitan Police
We respectfully call on the Metropolitan Police Service and any other competent UK authorities to:
Launch an urgent, impartial investigation into the specific incidents and statements identified in the petition.
Examine original video recordings and available evidence, including the exact words used, the surrounding context, the dates of the incidents and any relevant witness accounts.
Assess whether any criminal offences have occurred under the applicable law, including any relevant offences involving threats, harassment or incitement.
Take appropriate legal action wherever the evidence and law justify it, including arrest and prosecution where the relevant legal requirements are met.
Consider the impact on community relations and public safety, particularly where repeated confrontations may contribute to hostility or tension.
Provide appropriate guidance on reporting further incidents and explain how concerns can be submitted for proper assessment.
We are not asking the police to arrest anyone merely because that person holds Christian beliefs, criticises Islam or participates in religious debate. We are asking the authorities to investigate specific, verifiable conduct fairly and consistently, without favouring or discriminating against any religious community.
A call for justice, dignity and equal treatment
The United Kingdom is home to people of many religions and backgrounds. Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Sikhs, people of other faiths and those with no religious beliefs must all be able to live together with dignity and mutual respect.
No community should be subjected to unlawful threats, intimidation or religiously motivated hostility. Equally, lawful freedom of expression must be protected.
If the available evidence establishes that any individual has committed a criminal offence, the appropriate authorities should take action in accordance with the law. No one should be treated as guilty before the evidence has been assessed.
We therefore invite people of all faiths and backgrounds who support justice, peaceful coexistence and equal protection under the law to support this petition.
SIGN THIS PETITION. SHARE IT WIDELY. CALL FOR AN URGENT AND FAIR INVESTIGATION.
Let us stand together against religious hatred, protect community harmony and uphold justice for everyone.
Respect every community. Protect religious freedom. Uphold the law.
