Demand an independent review of McCurtain County's handling of Josh's case
The Issue
My husband, Josh, came forward to law enforcement as a victim. He trusted that what he shared would be treated seriously, investigated properly, and protected.
Instead, we have spent years trying to understand what happened after he spoke.
We have received conflicting information about whether his report was investigated, reviewed, declined, closed, transferred to another agency, or remains open. We have repeatedly asked for basic administrative information—including dates, agency involvement, and the current status—but still do not have clear answers.
We are also seeking an explanation for how information from Josh’s law-enforcement interview ended up in the hands of people involved in an unrelated federal civil lawsuit. Josh was later pulled into that lawsuit as a defendant, despite having no involvement in the original dispute. He has since been dismissed from the case, but the questions surrounding the handling of his information remain unanswered.
When we requested records from McCurtain County, we were told that a protective order prevented their release. We asked for the case number, the court that issued the order, and the specific legal restriction being relied upon. That information has not been provided.
We are not asking the public to decide whether anyone committed a crime. We are asking an independent authority to follow the documented paper trail and determine what actually happened.
What We Are Asking For
We respectfully request that an appropriate state or federal authority conduct an independent review addressing:
How Josh’s report was received, documented, investigated, and transferred.
Which agencies or officials reviewed the matter and what its current status is.
How information from Josh’s interview was accessed, shared, or disclosed.
Whether all disclosures of his information were authorized and lawful.
What protective order or legal authority is being used to withhold administrative records.
Whether relevant records, including communications, access logs, audit histories, and transfer records, have been properly preserved.
Whether any misconduct, policy failures, or legal violations occurred.
We also ask that Josh receive a clear written explanation of the findings to the fullest extent permitted by law.
This is about more than one unanswered records request. Victims should be able to come forward without fearing that their personal information will be mishandled or used against them. They should not have to fight for years simply to learn what happened to their report.
Josh deserves answers. The public deserves transparency. And any person who comes forward as a victim deserves to know that the system entrusted with their information will handle it responsibly.
Please sign this petition to support a fair, independent, and fact-based review—and accountability wherever the evidence leads.
