I am a teacher in Rivers State, Nigeria. Recently, I discovered that the Nigerian Union of Teachers (N.U.T.) in Rivers State has been deducting ₦2,000 from our salaries every month under the End Well Scheme without our consent. This scheme was imposed on us without any consultation or information sessions. There was no transparency, no opportunity for teachers to voice their opinions or concerns, and ultimately, no consent given by teachers like myself.

This situation is incredibly frustrating and disheartening for many of us working tirelessly in education, dedicated to shaping the future of our children. We work long hours for modest pay, and every naira is vital to our families' wellbeing. It is unjust to make deductions from our hard-earned salaries for a scheme we did not agree to.

The N.U.T., an organization meant to protect and advocate for teachers, should focus on supporting us rather than imposing financial burdens without our agreement. The lack of transparency and sincerity from the Union erodes trust and undermines their role as our representatives.

We demand that the N.U.T. immediately cease the deductions and refund all the monies collected under this scheme. Moreover, if the Union insists on continuing the End Well Scheme, it should be made optional, allowing teachers to choose to participate if they see benefits in it.
