The Issue

Animal testing is a pervasive issue that affects millions of animals annually, often subjecting them to inhumane and painful procedures. The time has come for our government to acknowledge and address the cruelty inherent in these practices, and to push for legislation that will end this suffering.

Statistics indicate that millions animals are used in experiments every year, including mice, rats, rabbits, monkeys, cats, dogs, fish, and other animals. Many of these animals are subjected to experiments that cause severe stress, discomfort, and pain, and that result in their eventual death.

The Government of Canada has launched a new strategy, which requires them to identify and promote NAMs (New Approach Methods). Experts from many organizations have said that this strategy will require a lot of resources and priority of the government.

Organizations globally, including many in European countries, have already implemented bans or significant restrictions on animal testing, paving the way for innovative research that does not rely on animal suffering. It's time for our government to follow suit and create policies that protect animals from unnecessary harm.

We urge the government to take action by:

1. Establishing a committee dedicated to phasing out animal testing and promoting alternative research methods.
2. Providing funding and resources to research facilities to develop and implement humane testing alternatives.
3. Amending existing laws to reflect a commitment to reducing and eventually eliminating animal testing.

Together, we can make a difference. Sign this petition to demand that our government prioritize ending animal testing and protecting the welfare of all creatures. Every signature counts towards a more ethical and compassionate future.
