The above photo - used with permission - provided some measure of comfort to a mother whose baby was taken for adoption.  Our babies were taken, not 'given up'.
Taken.

Young, unmarried mothers received no information about financial or other assistance available through the welfare state. They were given no choice.

Imagine being a mother for a few hours, days or weeks, then your baby is taken from you and has just... gone.
It's not like a death.
When someone dies there is a funeral, cards, flowers, sympathy and support.
Instead, we were sent home and expected to keep quiet and pretend this major life event - and significant loss - had never happened. Many women never recovered.

Adoption did not guarantee happiness - they weren't all successful.
Some children were aware they had been adopted. Others were not told, only to discover the truth as teenagers or adults. Usually by chance - turning their entire world upside down.

The traumatic impact of these experiences on mother and child is lifelong.

We want a full formal apology from the UK Government, for the lies, the injustices, the cruelty and the indifference we suffered at the hands of various State-sanctioned and funded institutions - including the NHS.

This is one of the biggest injustices of our time.

We are all getting older.  Time is running out - we need your help.

Please share our petition as far and as wide as you can.

Thank you
