As a taxpayer and resident of McKellar, Ontario, I believe it is crucial to have an all Candidates meeting for the upcoming municipal election. Traditionally, in democratic processes, voters are given the opportunity to understand the perspectives and priorities of those who wish to govern them. Without this face-to-face interaction, how can we make informed decisions about who will lead our community effectively?

Currently, McKellar is lacking a structured platform where residents can engage directly with candidates for Mayor and council. This oversight is not only a disservice to the community but also compromises the fundamental democratic process. An all Candidates meeting would provide a transparent forum for us to pose questions, hear the candidates' viewpoints, and discern their plans for our town's future. Democracy thrives on participation and accountability, and this cannot be achieved without open dialogue.

Statistics and past experiences have proven the value of such meetings. According to research, municipalities with open forums before elections experienced higher voter turnout and stronger community engagement. The absence of such a meeting in McKellar only serves to maintain barriers between election candidates and those they wish to serve.

The benefits of hosting this meeting are clear: it promotes informed voting, strengthens the democratic process, and ensures that community concerns are heard directly by potential leaders. By having an all Candidates meeting, we pave the way for a transparent and accountable government, essential for a thriving community.

I urge the local election committee and current council members to organize an all Candidates meeting before the upcoming election. Let’s ensure that every voter in McKellar can exercise their right to make informed choices.
