Searches of official FD records, union lists, archives, and historical news found no information. He also has no verified military service as a Vietnam veteran — checks of VA records, military archives, veteran databases, and Vietnam-era news turned up nothing. Both claims originate only from a single neighbor. The media amplified unverified “hero veteran” stories while smearing Salis, his family, and the entire Romani/Traveler community with stereotypes and antiziganism.
