Our children play at our local AFL club in Ferny Grove, a club that has been rapidly growing along with the sport. AFL is not just a pastime, it has become an integral part of our community. Our club provides an invaluable opportunity for kids to engage in sport, develop teamwork skills, and build lasting friendships. Notably, our club is also fostering a growing number of women and girls teams, providing them with an avenue to thrive and excel in AFL.

Despite the increasing popularity and demand, our AFL fields are plagued with persistent drainage issues, making them unsafe and unfit for play. As a result, games are frequently cancelled, causing disappointment and frustration not only for the players but also for their families and supporters. This is a significant setback for hundreds of juniors, youth, and adults who eagerly participate in games every weekend.

The Brisbane City Council and QLD State Government's failure to address this ongoing issue is unacceptable. It is imperative that they allocate the necessary resources and funding to fix these fields and ensure they meet the safety standards required for all players.

This is more than just about sports, it's about keeping our community active, healthy, and united. By ignoring these issues, the authorities are denying our community the chance to safely enjoy a growing sport that has become so important in our lives.

We call on the Brisbane City Council and the QLD State Government in partnership with AFL Queensland to take immediate action to repair and maintain our AFL fields in Ferny Grove. Falling short of repairs it is the councils responsibility to locate alternate fields for our club to grow and thrive with our community. It's time to ensure that all players, regardless of age or gender, have a safe and reliable ground to play and train on.
