Demand Action in Colorado Family Courts

Demand Action in Colorado Family Courts
The Issue
Mothers who leave abusive men to protect themselves and children are forced into long term traumatic post separation abuse enabled by the entire Family Court system.
We demand a Call to Action to immediately protect the human rights of our most vulnerable citizens and fix the Family Courts!
1. Grant a stay on judicial officers ordering parent evaluators until a more thorough regulation system is developed that protects citizens.
2. An immediate review all cases involving domestic abuse and alleged child abuse where survivors have lost custody or children are ordered into unsupervised contact with the domestic abuser. These reviews need to take place with a panel of Judiciary officers who have extensive and credible education and training about domestic abuse and how interpersonal violence impacts the health of children.
3. Call for an open forum to allow citizens to share their experiences in Family Court without retaliation with a focus on effective change.
4. Family Court Judicial transparency! When judges are immediately removed from the bench, the public deserves to know why and have recourse on their cases. Cases need immediate review by Senior Judicial officers. The cost burden should not be placed onto survivors when injustice has occurred.
5. Develop a think tank with citizens, domestic violence advocates, trauma specialists, coercive control specialists, law enforcement, Universities and the current DVFRB to collaborate on a different legal process for survivors of domestic abuse.
A right to safety and equal access to justice should not be dependent on gender, race, or financial status. Family courts are not currently abiding by evidentiary standards and the rule of law. For women and children to receive equal justice and safety in Colorado, we need a different judicial path. We must believe children's disclosures, consider perpetrators' patterns of abuse, and hold the perpetrators accountable.
Sign our petition to call for immediate action by Colorado government to protect women and children in Family Court!
