Demand Action Against the Public Health Crisis
Demand Action Against the Public Health Crisis
The Issue
I speak on behalf of many who suffer silently amid an alarming public health crisis. My indignation roots from personal experience, in which I saw human rights decimated, causing unimaginable pain and suffering. This crisis, insidious as it is, interferes with our guaranteed human rights to health, to life, and to a standard of living adequate for health and well-being.
A 2020 report from the World Health Organization asserts that about 13 million deaths worldwide each year are due to preventable environmental causes. This is a testament to the dire state of global public health that we find ourselves in. United Nations human rights provisions, such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights' Article 25, underline that every human being has a right to a standard of living adequate for health and well-being. Yet, we continue to witness these rights being blatantly violated.
We need immediate action to address this crisis. Only through determined commitment at all levels can we hope to turn the tide. It is vital to address the structural, socio-economic, and political factors that contribute to this crisis, and to ensure the availability, accessibility, and acceptability of public health services to all individuals, especially the most vulnerable.
In the charged atmosphere of a world where human rights seem secondary to other concerns, let us remember our shared humanity. I urge you to acknowledge this public health crisis, to cut through the apathy and silence surrounding these violations, and to act urgently to protect our fundamental human rights. Stand up, raise your voice, and sign this petition to demand action against the public health crisis.
