Demand action against revenge porn negligence

Demand action against revenge porn negligence
The Issue
My husband shared sexually explicit pictures of me to my daughter and on platforms and hes girlfriend went on to share over a 5 month period , and despite the clear evidence, the police decided to take no further action. This negligence has left my entire family traumatised and broken. We are not alone. There are countless victims out there who suffer the humiliation and emotional trauma of having their most intimate moments exposed without consent. This is revenge porn, and it’s a crime.
Revenge porn is a growing issue worldwide. According to a study by the Cyber Civil Rights Initiative, over 60% of victims of non-consensual pornography have had explicit images shared without their permission, and a significant number of those cases never see justice. The law must be implemented stringently to prevent offenders from hiding behind technological anonymity.
Sadly, the police’s lack of action exacerbates the problem. Many victims, like myself, reach out to law enforcement, only to have our pleas ignored or dismissed. This is unacceptable. Each ignored case is another acknowledgment that our pain and invasion of privacy are unimportant.
It is time for the police to step up and take claims of revenge porn seriously to discourage perpetrators. There should be concrete actions, such as robust training programs for officers, dedicated departments to handle digital abuse cases, and an open line of communication to regularly update victims on their case progress.
We urge lawmakers to enforce harsher penalties for offenders and to mandate police accountability when handling these sensitive cases. There should be clear policies and protocols to ensure that each report is thoroughly investigated and the victim's rights are upheld.
Family members and victims deserve peace and justice. The trauma inflicted from such violations shouldn't be compounded by the inadequacy of the systems meant to protect us. By signing this petition, demand that law enforcement agencies make revenge porn a priority and give victims the justice they rightfully deserve.
