Demand Action Against Counterfeit and Adulterated Products in Nigeria.
The Issue
Nigerians should not have to gamble with our lives when buying medicines, food, fresh produce, cosmetics, household products, and other everyday goods. We deserve to buy safe products for consumption or application to our bodies.
Nigeria already has regulatory bodies responsible for protecting the public, including NAFDAC, SON, and other relevant agencies. Yet counterfeit, adulterated, contaminated, toxic, and substandard products continue to reach Nigerian consumers. If these systems exist, why are these products still getting through?
We are demanding an independent review of the regulatory and quality-control systems responsible for protecting Nigerians, with a focus on three critical areas:
1. PREVENTION & QUALITY CONTROL
Identify and close the gaps that allow unsafe and adulterated products to enter and circulate in our markets from farms and local production to imports, processing, distribution, and final sale.
2. TRACEABILITY & ACCOUNTABILITY
Establish stronger end-to-end traceability and chain-of-custody systems so products can be traced from their source through the supply chain, and responsibility can be established when something goes wrong.
3. TESTING, SURVEILLANCE & ENFORCEMENT
Strengthen proactive testing and market surveillance so dangerous products are identified before consumers are harmed, with effective recalls, enforcement, and public alerts when failures are detected.
Where an independent review establishes regulatory failure, negligence, misconduct, or failure of leadership to fulfill statutory responsibilities, we demand appropriate sanctions including REMOVAL OF RESPONSIBLE NAFDAC and SON’s LEADERSHIP where warranted by law.
This is not about attacking individuals. It is about demanding a regulatory system that works, accountability when it fails, and a safer Nigeria for everyone.
This petition is the beginning of a broader campaign for safer products and stronger consumer protection in Nigeria.
As support grows, we intend to:
Present the petition and documented evidence to the Presidency, NAFDAC, SON, and other relevant authorities.
Engage the National Assembly to pursue appropriate oversight, investigation, and accountability.
Push for measurable action to close gaps in prevention, testing, quality control, traceability, chain of custody, market surveillance, and enforcement.
Bring together quality, food-safety, scientific, agricultural, industry, technology, and consumer stakeholders to help develop practical, sustainable solutions.
We are not asking for promises. We are asking for action, accountability, and measurable change.
