Demand Accountable Water Management and Fulfillment of Promises by California's Governor

Demand Accountable Water Management and Fulfillment of Promises by California's Governor
The Issue
The wildfires that have been ravaging communities across California, like the one in Altadena, are a vivid example of the consequences of poor water management and broken promises. One personal account highlighting this issue is of a co-worker from Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation, who lost his home due to the blaze in Altadena. The fire hydrants, our first line of defense against such disasters, were woefully lacking in water supply.
Governor Gavin Newsom, despite being aware of the situation, has not made strides in improving the efficacy of water management for fighting fires in California. His commitment to eliminating dry greenery along California's mountains and coast - a major fire hazard - also remains unfulfilled. An estimated 147 million dead trees are scattered across California's forest lands, a ready factor to exacerbate a wildfire (Source: US Forest Service). Yet, the neglect continues.
The time to hold our governor accountable is now. We must spur him into taking immediate action and to emphasize water management protocols, remove potential fire sources, and assure the preservation of our communities. We cannot afford to lose more homes and lives to infernos resulting from inadequate preparation and disregard of prior commitments.
Please join us in demanding that Governor Newsom prioritizes California's water needs and follows through on his promises to mitigate wildfire risks. We seek justice for our coworker, and for all Californian citizens who trust in their leaders to protect them and their homes. Your signature can be a powerful message - that we demand better leadership and governance. Sign this petition today!
