The Issue

East Point residents deserve safe, reliable water service.

Our community has now experienced a prolonged water outage that has left thousands of residents without one of life’s most basic necessities. Families have been unable to cook, bathe, wash dishes, do laundry, flush toilets reliably, or safely prepare food and infant bottles. Businesses have been disrupted, and many residents have had to spend their own money on bottled water and other necessities.

While emergencies can happen, residents deserve honest communication and accountability when they do.

During this outage, the City provided multiple timeline estimates that changed significantly, leaving many residents uncertain about when service would be restored. We recognize that complex infrastructure repairs can encounter unexpected challenges. However, when circumstances change, residents deserve timely, transparent updates explaining what happened and what to expect.

East Point residents pay for reliable water service every month. When that service is unavailable for an extended period, the City has a responsibility to communicate clearly, support affected residents, and take steps to prevent similar situations from happening again.

We are calling on the City of East Point, the Mayor, the City Council, the City Manager, and the Water Resources Department to:

Provide automatic water and sewer bill credits for all customers affected by the outage.
Establish a reimbursement process for residents and businesses with documented outage-related expenses, such as bottled water or other necessary purchases.
Release a complete public report detailing what caused the outage, why repair timelines changed, how decisions were made during the emergency, and what lessons were learned.
Improve emergency communication by providing regular, accurate updates across social media, text alerts, the city website, and local media whenever major utility disruptions occur.
Develop and publicly share a long-term infrastructure improvement plan to reduce the likelihood of future outages and strengthen the City’s water system.
Review and improve the City’s emergency response procedures so residents receive faster assistance and clearer information during future utility emergencies.
This petition is not about assigning blame for an emergency repair. It is about ensuring that residents receive the transparency, communication, and accountability they deserve from their local government.

If you believe East Point residents deserve reliable public services, honest communication, and fair treatment when those services fail, please sign this petition and share it with your neighbors.

Together, we can encourage meaningful improvements that will benefit every resident of East Point.
