Demand Accountability from the Lee County School Board Regarding Edward Kelly

The Issue

For over 20 years, Edward Kelly has been named in multiple reports filed with the Lee County School Board and the Fort Myers Police Department. Survivors — including former students — have come forward, publicly and privately, identifying him as a predator. And yet, no action has been taken.

This is not just a failure to investigate. It’s a failure to protect. It’s a failure to believe survivors. And it has gone on long enough.

I am one of those survivors.

I founded The Ian Gavin Project to fight for truth, justice, and accountability — not just for myself, but for every survivor who was ignored, silenced, or retraumatized by systems that chose to look away. I know I’m not the only one who’s come forward. And I know I won’t be the last unless something changes.

Despite these reports, Edward Kelly has remained protected and connected within the community — even receiving public support from individuals and institutions that appear more concerned with reputation than responsibility. That silence isn’t neutral. It’s complicity.

We are calling on the Lee County School Board and relevant authorities to immediately:

  • Launch a full and independent investigation into all past and present complaints involving Edward Kelly.
  • Disclose the number of reports filed against him.
  • Provide a public explanation for why no disciplinary action or public response has been issued.
  • Permanently remove him from any school-related, youth-based, or community leadership roles.

Every day of silence puts more children at risk. Every ignored report is a betrayal. This isn’t just about one man — it’s about an entire system that protected him for over two decades.

If you or someone you know has been harmed or silenced, you’re not alone. We see you. We believe you. And we’re fighting for a world where survivors are heard — not hidden.

We will not stay quiet. We will not be dismissed.

We are demanding the truth — and we won’t stop until we get it.
