Demand Accountability from Refugio County Sheriff Department and City Police Department for Unlawful Arrests and Harassment
The Issue
My fellow citizens and I, primarily those of us who are black, have been unjustly targeted, harassed and traumatized by the very institutions set up to protect us: The Refugio County Sheriff Department and the City Police Department. For years, we have experienced brutal and unfair treatment that has gone unnoticed and unpunished. I was personally falsely accused by an individual, Haley Boclick, who fabricated a document that led to my unwarranted arrest. This could've resulted in a fatal incident. I was thrown on the ground and kicked in the back which resulted in me having a seizure which could have resulted in a fatality. I had just gotten out of the hospital for cardiac arrest two days prior to the incident.
In the past I had gotten sexually assaulted and was not treated serious. I was put out of the Refugio Memorial Hospital. Which is supposed to be a place of safety.
This is not an isolated event; it is part of a longstanding pattern of discriminatory behavior. According to the Center for Policing Equity, black individuals are 3.6 times more likely than white individuals to be subjected to the use of force by police officers. This is not simply about my story, it's about the countless unheard stories of black citizens in Refugio County suffering from systemic racism in our own backyard.
This petition is a demand for justice, a plea for fairness, and a call to end this vicious cycle of victimization from those who have sworn to uphold the law. By signing this petition, we demand a thorough investigation into Haley Boclick and the above-mentioned authorities responsible, to be held accountable for their actions. This is the only way we can start healing and ensure that such violations do not recur. Your signature makes you a part of this crucial movement for justice. Please, sign this petition.
