Megan Torres started this petition to Chief Cororporate Responsibility Officer Kala Gibson

On January 1, 2021 I experienced racial harm at Ohio State Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. I presented with a head injury and asked if a Black medical provider was available to be on my care team. I'm a Black woman. Prior to this visit, I almost lost my life at the same hospital after giving birth to my daughter. The emergency room staff would not treat my emergent postpartum preeclampsia "until my drug test came back negative". I sat for hours in triage with stroke level blood pressure, all alone and scared. This traumatic event prompted me to ask this time if a Black provider was available, hoping to mitigate risk. Unfortunately my nurse saw it differently. I recorded the incident, hospital staff became agitated and called security while I was bedridden and immobile.

Currently the hospital is being federally investigated by the Office of Civil Rights (Health and Human Services). Despite knowledge of this active investigation, Fifth Third Bank continues to finance PACT, a non profit organization founded by and financed by the hospital. They've pledged 20 million dollars. It's curious and unsettling that funds earmarked institutionally for health equity and antiracism efforts are being funneled directly into the very institution that continues to harm Black and Brown patients with zero remorse. The lack of accountability is frustrating and I'm calling on community to tell Kala Gibson of Fifth Third Bank to meet with me to discuss my concerns about antiracism funds being given to a hospital being federally investigated for civil rights violations.

My #pulluporshutupdonoharm campaign on Instagram has already made an impact. So much so that I have been threatened by unknown sources to shut it down and @osuwexmed continues to dirty delete comments in support of the campaign on all of their social media pages.

You can help amplify my story by signing and sharing this petition with a friend. This will not happen to another patient. Not while I have a voice. Giving money to organizations being federally investigated for civil rights violations is incomprehensible and put simply, wrong. Asking their Chief Corporate Responsibility and Antiracism Officer Kala Gibson for a meeting to discuss how we can advocate together for greater oversight. As of last month, he has stopped responding to my emails and I have been blocked by Fifth Third on Instagram.
